The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is the premier school of the University of Illinois system. It was chartered in 1867 as the Illinois Industrial University in Urbana as the Land Grant school for Illinois under the Morrill Act. Besides being ranked in the top tier for their undergraduate program, the school has become one of the finest research centers in the country. Notable programs include Computer Science and Agriculture. In addition to UIUC's distinguished academic programs it also has well developed student life and athletic programs. The U of I is home to the largest Greek System in the world with nearly 6000 members of 45 fraternities and 20 sororities. As the Fighting Illini, the school consistently fields top teams in the NCAA Big Ten Conference with notable teams in basketball and football. The University of Illinois also was home to the first organized homecoming weekend in 1910.
